Title: Catcher in the Rye

Author: J.D. Salinger

This novel has a first person narrative voice: the protagonist, Holden Caulfield. The language is very inclusive to the reader and very personal, which makes you very attached and concerned for the character, allowing you to escape into the world that is Holden's life.

Author: Anne Frank

An entertaining and yet compelling autobiography recounting the life of a young 14 year old girl’s life in constant hiding during the war, her battles and obstacles to overcome.

The writing style was immersive and took me to old London, to help solve crimes with a brilliant detective and his army doctor friend.

This book helped me to escape because….

It brought me to the time where racial discrimination was big. It answered the thought in my mind “what if the roles were reversed?” It showed two different perspectives when the races were swapped. This made me feel like I was in the novel witnessing everything that happened.

The connections you make with the characters makes the reader feel what the characters are feeling, to go through what they have been through. Empathy travels through the book. The characters are not the only thing that helps me escape, the world it is set in helps me travel to another & encourages to live through and with them.

This book made me more aware on the racial disagreements that have or are still currently accruing in the world. Therefore it takes me back to the past when racial discrimination was common and normal during this time.

The plot line and characters make you feel as though you are part of the story. The novel makes you feel many different emotions as you anticipate what will happen next and how it will affect the characters. You escape from reality as the novel entices you to just keep on reading without focusing on anything else.

This was a thrilling murder mystery which continued to leave me with questions and theories about who was responsible. The novel had many exciting twists and turns that caught me off guard while reading but overall, a good novel that had an interesting storyline and characters.

This is a collection of three romantic novels allowed me to go on three completely different journeys filled with adventures during the time of Christmas. Different perspectives of characters produced a wide range of emotion within me as well as creating a calm atmosphere in order to escape.

Author: J D Salinger

This book helped me to escape because….

This novel held a character, Holden that I identified with on many levels, specifically with his feeling of a lost sense of identity. Due to this I as able to establish a thorough connection to him as a friend, instead of just a fictional tool. The “Catcher in the Rye” was a reflection of myself and the world I live in and though it isn’t a story of fantasy, magic and dragons, it was a story of a lost boy trying to survive his life and live how he wants without the overbearing restrictions of society, something we “millennials” are far too familiar with.

This is a tale of adventure that travels through the world of virtual reality. It helped me escape into an unbreakable trance of pure interest.

Title: In Order to Live

Author: Yeomi Park

This book  directed my imagination to the laborious hardships in North Korea. Under the brain washing of the regime, it put the rights and freedom I have into perspective and makes me feel privileged.

Title: The Hobbit

Author: J R R Tolkien

This book shows how unexpected adventures can result in an amazing experience and how to get out of a comfortable life and change.

Title: Henderson Boys – Grey Wolves

Author: Robert  Muchamore

This book allowed me to understand how undercover agents worked and how people in WWII felt and how they were treaded. It helped me escape to the second world war, feel as if I was there, escaping from the enemy and sabotaging them.

The thrill of the mysteries portrayed throughout the series help me to visualize the situation and enabled me to escape and is entertaining.

This book helped me to escape to nother world, where something is destroying the human population. This novel is a captivating and heart warming  tale that will engage you until the end.

This 1800’s magical adventure helped me to escape because it allowed me to venture into a world of comedy, romance and drama in a way I’d never experienced before.

This book allowed me to enter into the world of Shakespeare through the eyes of an aspiring actor, who in reality was caught in a Shakespearean drama of his own.
